NDWA Conducts Orientation on Tech-Facilitated Violence for Persons with Disabilities

The Nepal Disabled Women Association (NDWA) conducted an orientation on technology-facilitated violence for persons with disabilities from Budanilkantha and Tarakeshwor municipalities. The orientation was facilitated by Ms. Kabita Bahing, Co-founder Aalawya.

The programme commenced with welcome remarks by Ms. Dev Kumari Parajuli, General Secretary of NDWA. Following the welcome, participants introduced themselves, and the facilitator outlined the objectives and agenda for the orientation.

The orientation covered the fundamentals of technology-facilitated violence, including its various forms, common online risks, preventive measures, digital safety practices, and available reporting and support mechanisms. Participants also learned about the importance of protecting personal information, recognizing abusive online behaviour, and responding safely to digital threats.

The sessions were highly interactive, incorporating experience sharing, group discussions, and presentations. Participants reflected on the unique vulnerabilities faced by persons with disabilities in digital spaces. Many noted that people with disabilities may be at greater risk of technology-facilitated violence because they often rely on online platforms for social interaction, information, and community, making them more vulnerable to online exploitation, harassment, and abuse.

The orientation concluded with a shared commitment to promoting safer and more inclusive digital environments for persons with disabilities. Participants emphasized the importance of increasing digital literacy, strengthening awareness on online safety, and ensuring accessible reporting and support systems to prevent and respond to technology-facilitated violence.
